When you are enjoying your food and your cat desperately wants a bite, it is really hard to resist and not to share some with them. After all we love them and we don’t want them to feel excluded from what we are doing or enjoying. However, everyone needs to know that there are human foods which are very dangerous or in some cases even deadly for our feline companions.
These are the 7 human foods that you need to keep away from your cat at all costs:
1. Dark chocolate
Dark chocolate might be healthy for us, but for cats it can cause a lot of different issues. Any chocolate contains caffeine which can cause tremors, rapid breathing and palpitations, but dark chocolate also has theobromine. This ingredient in one of our favorite human foods can cause seizures and heart arrhythmias.
2. Dairy foods
When kittens become independent from their mothers, milk should not be part of their diet. This is because most cats are lactose intolerant and consuming any diary product might cause vomiting or diarrhea.
3. Raw meat
You might want to give your cat a bite of some raw meat while you are preparing a meal, but that is a really bad idea. The raw meat you just served for your cat might contain salmonella and e. coli, which can make your cat very sick. Also, they can choke on the bone fragments and even get splinters in their digestive tract.
4. Onions and garlic
All of the vegetables that are in the same family as onions and garlic should be avoided. Eating them might give your kitty diarrhea because of its toxicity. It also can make them anemic or lower their iron levels, which is only going to make your cat lethargic.
Cats and alcohol do not go well together. A small amount of alcohol can cause gastrointestinal issues, tremors, and even brain damage. So make sure you keep your booze as far away from your cat as possible.
6. Grapes and raisins
It is not yet knows what kind of toxins grapes and raisins contain, however they can cause some really big health problems for your kitty. Even though cats are not really tempted to eat either of them, if they do consume them it can cause kidney failure.
7. Canned tuna
Canned tuna might sound like a really good idea and your cat will savor it, but that doesn’t mean that it is not dangerous and can’t cause any damage. A small bite once in a while is not going to do much damage, but having it regularly can cause digestive problems and also steatitis. A cat with this condition will have all of her fat inflamed.
