Why Do People Think That a Black Cat Brings Bad Luck?

For centuries the black cat has been associated with bad luck and there are still people who believe in these superstitions.

In ancient Egypt cats, including the black cats, were worshiped, but the tables have turned in the Middle ages in Europe. In this period black cats were related to witches who were accused of being heretics and were hunted down by the Roman Catholic Church. Up to this day during Halloween celebrations, we can see that this belief has remained.

Not everywhere in the world people believe that black cats bring bad luck. In England, Ireland, Japan and Scotland a black cat is considered to bring good luck. Unfortunately the superstitions have remained in most of Western and Southern Europe.

Sadly, thanks to these tales black cats are the least wanted in the shelters and last to get adopted.
